Passionate Blogging and Earth Day

A couple weeks ago, Shari at Shari’s Gone Country awarded me a ‘Passionate Blogger Award’. I don’t do award memes that often, but I thought I would use it to highlight a few blogs that I think are worthy of mention.

”Passionate

My first nominee is Duck and Wheel with String. First off, I think it is great title for a blog. She has many great posts about everyday life. Her Earth Day post, Me and my underpants are saving the Earth talks about simple things we can do to make the earth a better place.

My second nominee follows on this theme. Peanut Butter and Smelly’s Dad is another great title for a blog. It is a great Dad blog. His blog post,
Earth Week - Cloth Diapers talks about another simple thing to do to make the earth a little bit better.

Honorable mention goes to Grandmother Wren for her blog post about Cold Blooded Friends at the Library.

As a final note, Shari named four other great blogs in her post, and I encourage you to check out the blogs she has recommended as well.

EntreCard Reflections

Well, the turmoil over EntreCard’s latest changes seem to be subsiding and I thought it would be a good idea to think about what happened and what we can learn from it.

The First Full Moon of Spring

Last Thursday was the first full moon of Spring. It is a time where friends recite stories of deliverance out of bondage and stories of resurrection. It is a time when other friends talk about the seed moon or wind moon and celebrate fertility of a reborn earth.

It is a time of spring’s first gold, in waving fields of daffodils and burgeoning branches of forsythia, and I imagine my friends celebrating the wind moon out in the silvery light gathering this gold.

Whatever your tradition, this is a time of change. My sleep has been tempestuous and filled with strange dreams. I feel called to spend more time working on various technological projects; expanding my working Matlab, adding R to the mix and exploring other technologies. I feel called to work more on the craft of my writing. I feel called to spend more time exploring what is emerging in social media with my GraphViz explorations, my ideas for social network contact management, and testing new systems like Elgg. I feel drawn towards more work in citizen journalism and civic activism, finding ways to be more involved and help others become more involved. One dream even seemed to be a very clear call to study group psychotherapy in a more formal way.

Of course, the old Russian proverb, chase two hare’s, catch none, comes to mind. But then again, chasing hare’s might not be the metaphor to use around the First Full Moon of Spring. So, I’ll explore different ideas and see where they take me.

Happy Social Media Easter

“The Lord is risen!” We shouted this as a greeting to friends at church this morning. “The Lord is risen indeed, Hallelujah!” It was a great sermon, bringing the resurrection from two thousand years ago into the modern context. It hit the core issues of the Gospel, that all Christ has been victorious over death, and all that drags us down. If the Resurrected Christ could conquer death, He can certainly conquer our small issues, worries about health or finances, and so on.

There was also a good discussion about God’s love as a source of renewable energy. God constantly showers us with His love. We can chose to rely on old examples of God’s love, sort of like how we’ve relied on oil, or we can rely on the love of God gives to us each day and that we have an opportunity to reflect to the people around us.

I pray that each of you experience God’s love, however you understand it, and pass that on to those around you.

For us, much of God’s love is reflected in simple family activities, like coloring eggs, or an Easter Egg hunt. We colored eggs on Saturday and broadcast it on Ustream. During the egg coloring, various friends connected and chatted with us.

I also have some good pictures of the events of the day in my Easter 2009 photo set.
