Online Shopping Alone
Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Mon, 12/05/2005 - 12:36Jon Lebkowsky writes about an article in the latest issue of Business Week talking about “Generation @”. If those who came of age in a world where everyone has an at sign in their email addresses are called Generation @, then I wonder if I should refer to myself as part of “Generation !”. After all, my first networked email address was on Usenet using an exclamation point to separate the userid from the hostnames.
Jon talks about how many conversations he’s been in with other consultants and online entrepreneurs who've predicted the imminent death of social network platforms. I’ve participated in many such conversations as well, and I suspect that my conversations on the subject have significantly overlapped with Jon’s conversations.

Podcasting for positive change
Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Sat, 12/03/2005 - 13:23Recently, I’ve been emailing back and forth with a friend who is working on getting Person to Person Aid up and running. We got into a discussion about podcasting, and I’ve decided to take an email that I was starting to write to her and make it a more general discussion.
She wrote, “once our project p2paid.org is up, I’ll encourage our users to load their recordings. I’d love to hear music from the Andes directly from a village out there. It will give me the chills.”
It made me think of Global Voices. They describe themselves as “an international effort to diversify the conversation taking place online by involving speakers from around the world “ and recently won the 2005 Best of the Blogs for best journalistic blog in English. Thinking about what Paola said, it seems as if it would be great if there could be a few songs added to the conversation that Global Voices is interested in.

Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit
Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Thu, 12/01/2005 - 13:11Thus ends November and starts December. November was a pretty rough month. Let’s see what December brings. Lots of random stuff:
The plumber has gotten the part and is here to fixing the furnace.
Molly Lindsey, the new deputy press secretary at the DeStefano campaign is going to start blogging. I’m very excited about this. The blog has suffered because not enough different people were writing. There was a long discussion about rumors about my role on Connecticut Local Politics. She has put her first blog post up on the DeStefano campaign. Please stop by and make her feel welcome.
