The Archetypal Angst of Nick Collision – Episode 236
Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Tue, 11/30/2004 - 23:21When we last met saw our hero, he was sitting in front of his computer. As a matter of fact, just about anytime we see our hero, he is sitting in front of his computer. He had just been kicked off of an IRC channel because of a nick collision. “Nick Collision”, Nick thought. What a wonderful pseudonym for a super hacker.
Meanwhile off in another part of cyberspace, Nick struck up a discussion about angst. He had posted to a blog, talking about ‘Teen Angst’, but the Spam Filter wouldn’t allow the word ‘Teen’, so he had to change his message to ‘Adolescent Angst’.
One person commented, “It's taken me more than 40 years to learn that none of my personal feelings aren't universal.”
It’s about the fun.

Recently, I’ve been on many mailing lists bewailing the results of the November election. There are discussions about how to reform the Democratic Party. Should Howard Dean become the DNC Chair? Should people leave and start a new centrist party or a new progressive party? Fighting between Democrats is rampant on the mailing lists, all as everyone searches for new messages, new ways to frame messages, and new voices to deliver the messages.

Weird Spam filters
Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Mon, 11/29/2004 - 22:04Over at Diner Bitch is a blog entry about Julia Robert's new son Phinnaeus.
I tried posting the following comment, but it rejected it because it had spam words in it. Maybe we can't use the word 'girl' anymore. Either that or maybe 'wife' isn't okay.
