Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Tue, 09/14/2004 - 10:53Looking at some of the ads that Google Adsense has put on this site has revealed a few interesting blogs that I thought I would comment on.
We have friends and relatives that live in Florida and we’re also very interested in meteorology. Years ago, I subscripted to a mailing list of storm chasers, and I greatly enjoyed reading their writing. Today, one of the ads from my site pointed to http://weatherbug.blogs.com/. This is an interesting blog with some even more interesting links. For example, there is a great discussion of hurricane prediction models here
Site Review

The Orient Lodge site is now a little over a month old and I thought this would be a good opportunity reflect on how it is going. The site is based on Drupal 4.4 without any special tweaks. I have played with the configuration trying to come up with the best layout. Is it better to have ‘blocks’ on the left, on the right, on both sides? I started off with them on the right, but I read some articles about how people read newspapers and websites that suggested it might be better to have the content on the right. I’ve now read some contradictory data, so I’m reconsidering this decision.
Reflections – Part 2

A few days ago, I posted an entry, entitled ‘Reflections – Part 1’. That sort of requires me to follow up with a part 2. This part is one that I’ve been thinking about ever since the Republican convention, and since then, I keep getting more and feedback to go into the article.
My daughter is taking a course on comparative politics and the professor talked about key aspects of a democracy. She challenged whether or not the United States is truly democratic, choosing two points, whether or not the writ of habeas corpus is being properly observed, and whether or not we have a free press.

It rained today, and I thought about my life,
Of late, there have been a lot of personal attacks in the U.S. Presidential race. First Kerry’s record in Vietnam was attacked. Then the attackers were attacked. The Bush’s record in the Texas Air National Guard was attacked. Then those attackers were attacked. Many people have complained asking why we can’t focus on the issues.

Job Search...
Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Sat, 09/11/2004 - 10:16Yesterday, I received a job lead for a small start-up, which has a new CEO who is trying to turn it around. He is looking for a CTO. A friend of mine who had been considering investing in this start-up passed this on to me. I sent an email to the CEO introducing myself. Within moments, I received a response asking for my resume. Half an hour later, I received a phone call from the CEO and we had an extended discussion.
