The Daily Examen - June 4, 2017
Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Sun, 06/04/2017 - 20:03Pentecost.
Chimes and anthems
and hugs for a friend
with a very sick daughter.
A horseshow
with a frightening accident
without serious injuries.
A picnic with friends
talking about the future of church
and connecting with God and one another.
And then…
“Love is Love is Love…”
and OneLoveManchester
is greater than terrorism
is greater than protests
and counter protests
in Portland.
And perhaps
this is Gospel
in unexpected places
helping give shape
to Godspace

The car made it cautiously down
the gravel road
as she thought about
her son
who died in infancy.

On the highway,
getting away for the weekend,
they didn’t talk much;
especially not
about the failed adoption.

“Pray for my daughter”,
she asked.
“The tropical disease
and chronic illness
is now critical
and they are treating her
with extreme unction.”

Two friends posted videos
of childhood hunger
and trauma.

The sun has come out
and I sit on the deck
as if I’m at
the guest house
or a vacation rental.
The Daily Examen - June 2, 2017
Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Sat, 06/03/2017 - 15:12“For the good earth which God has given us, and for the wisdom and will to conserve it, let us pray to the Lord.”
From Prayers of the People, Form 1, Book of Common Prayer
“for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes”
From “i thank You God for most this amazing” by e.e. cummings
“Faith in a pluralistic, postmodern culture cannot simply be absorbed from one’s community; it must be constructed.”
From Postmodern Christian Education – Online
“And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each.”
From Acts 2:1-21 in Lectionary for Pentecost
“In spite of hardships and setbacks, the work goes on. This is God’s world. And we are all his children. And, ‘He’s got the whole world in his hands.’”

The Paris Climate Accord, U.S. Job, and the 2018 Governor's Races
Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Sat, 06/03/2017 - 08:14Dayton Ohio Mayor, Nan Whaley, who is running for Governor of Ohio is going to test drive a Chevy Volt. Normally, I'd probably have some sort of snarky comment about this. Test driving a volt now? I've been driving a volt for years. The town of Woodbridge, CT, where I live has a changing station at the town hall and a charging station at the public library. The city of Middletown, CT where I work, which by the way, also has a mayor running for Governor has a fleet of electric vehicles and a bunch of charging stations.
But Connecticut is a different state than Ohio. Nonetheless, right now, as the current President damages job outlooks in the United States by withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement, it is good to see gubernatorial candidates seeking to bring jobs to their state by pursuing a promising future instead of trying to prop up a dying past.
