Terri and Sun

Some months ago, Sigmund, Carl, and Alfred praised my blog for being willing to enter into a well thought out dialog about political issues. They also pointed to My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy and Maxed out Mama.

There are many topics worthy of political debate right now. What should be done to make sure that Social Security will remain as vibrant and effective forty years from now, as it is today? How do we make sure that elected officials, such as Tom Delay, Lamar Smith or Tom Cole behave ethically? How can the situation in Iraq be improved two years after the invasion? Where should the money be spent in State and Federal budgets?

Dashit 1999-2005

The final years of the twentieth century have a tendency of blurring together in my mind. I was working in a high paying and very stressful job for a large financial institution. My marriage was falling apart. I tried to hold the pieces of my old life together while finding new pieces for what was to come.

One part of my old life that stayed with me through the transition, and is still with me today is The Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. I have been going to Falcon Ridge just about every year since 1994. During this time of transition, I went to Falcon Ridge with my two daughters. It was a great time listening to the music and dancing. It was 1998 or 1999.

Quick update

Soon, I will be hopping on a plane home, with a bag full of notes, books, business cards, an email box overflowing with unread emails, and my mind crammed with new thoughts to put together.

My calendar is filling up with things to do when I get back home, so it may take a little while before I digest and post my thoughts.

However, I've gotten a lot of great material to work with and I look forward to getting it organized and up in a blog post.

Angst

I am at SXSW spending a lot of time thinking about the raw unfiltered aspects of blogs and balancing it with the need to protect people's privacy.

I am getting ready for my panel on technology and democracy and want to clear my head. I am spacy from lack of sleep.

I briefly checked my email to find that a person whom I love very much has just suffered a major failure. It is around writing, which I also love, and it is around problems that I've spoken with this person about it the past, including some fairly specific suggestions that I encouraged her to act upon, but I don't believe she ever did act upon.

So, where am I?

It is Monday about 8 am in Austin Texas. I write this partly as a chance to ground myself. I’ve been all over the place for the past several days, meeting diverse collection of people and this post will recount a little bit of these travels.
