Examen

The Daily Examen in poetic form

Daily Examen, July 28-30, 2017

Daily Examen, Friday, July 28, 2017
The day goes by too quickly
with only brief moments
to savor
a passing cloud
on a warm summer day,
the smile
of a friend facing hard times,
until the news hits hard
in the middle of the afternoon
that a friend
has lost his battle
with cancer.

Daily Examen, Saturday, July 29, 2017

Even early in the morning
facing a long day
there are glimmers
of great beauty
as red clouds in the morning
reflect off of lake
beside a long road.

Daily Examen, Sunday, July 30, 2017

The sunlight pours
through stained glass windows
on summertime guests.
People on difficult journeys
reflect
on the hopes of others
also on difficult journeys
and all will be well.

Daily Examen, July 26-27, 2017

Daily Examen, Wednesday, July 26, 2017
Another escaped day
without enough time
for reflection
and too many tasks
left dangling.
Somewhere in this
is the need
for better self care
and time management.

Daily Examen, Thursday, July 27, 2017
A long, drawn out,
jam packed day
full of work tasks
moments to relax
and theological
and political discussion
and finally deep rest.

Daily Examen, July 24-25, 2017

Daily Examen, Monday, July 24, 2017

And after days of high heat and humidity
the weather breaks
and the rain comes
The soft cool rain
is soporific
but much to do
and little time to rest.

Daily Examen, Tuesday, July 25, 2017

As the tasks pile up
and the to do list grows long
in continues to be a challenge
to stay focused
and keep things in perspective.

The prayers shift
to petitions for
guidance, protection, and comfort,
to be held in the loving arms
of God.

Daily Examen, July 22-3, 2017

Daily Examen, Saturday, July 22, 2017

A day to rest and read
and still find time for chores
ends with peach pie.

Daily Examen, Sunday, July 23, 2017

Look at the world differently.
What is church?
What is sanctuary?
View the shades of blue
on the distant hills
and prepare to be part
of something bigger
than it might seem.

Daily Examen, Friday, July 21, 2017

Limping to the end
of a busy week
still leaves time
for prayer,
feeding the hungry
and enjoying being together
with friends.
