Saturday Night Update

It has been a long couple of days. I am home decompressing before I pick up one of my daughters from a Halloween party. I am reading blogs and emails, and putting together this post.

As an aside, I am currently over 300 email messages behind. I haven’t been to BlogExplosion or the MOOs in quite a while. Hopefully I can catch up a little bit before crashing.

Yesterday, I created turf maps for much of Stamford. (See my entry here and here for some of my comments on political map making).

This morning, I stopped at Greenwich Democratic Headquarters and dropped off a box of walk cards for Kim’s campaign. Hopefully, a lot of them will get distributed over the next 72 hours.

From there, I went over to the Stamford Democratic Headquarters. Nancy Pelosi did a conference call with supporters of Diane Farrell. Diane showed up, as did Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez. They all gave great speeches about how important this election is. Fiona had to get in on the show, and ran up and gave Diane a big hug when she showed up. Diane ended up holding Fiona during some of Nydia’s speech.

The lit drop was chaos as many people were all geared up to hang literature on people’s doors. As people got their maps and literature and got out the door, the chaos subsided. I think the lit drop went well, and we shall see how things go tomorrow.

Back home, I had a quick supper, and then took Miranda off to a Halloween party. The party was in Kim’s district, so I handed a walk card to the parents of the hostess.

Now, I have a chance to read some of the blogs and the emails. I started off by scanning through articles on the Progressive Blog Alliance Aggregator. A couple interesting blog entries hopped out at me.

First and foremost, there is an important entry on Thudfactor, entitled The speed of lies. In a nutshell, it talks about the Republican challenge of voters in Ohio. It links to an entry at MyDD by Jerome Armstrong. Apparently the challenge is based on people not picking up Registered mail from the Republican Party. Registered mail needs to be signed for. If I wasn’t home when it arrived, I am unlikely to make a special trip to the Post Office to pick up Registered Junkmail from the Republicans.

Even better, 976 of the challenges were thrown out at a hearing on Thursday, and there is talk that the woman who brought the challenges could be indicted on felony charges.

I also stumbled across PeaceGarden, written by another Nutmegger. He was writing about hopes and fears for this coming Tuesday. While Connecticut isn’t generally thought of as a swing state, in terms of Diane Farrell’s campaign, as well as Jim Sullivan’s campaign, it could well be a very important swing state. We need to get everyone in the 2nd and 4th Congressional Districts to get out and vote for the Democratic challengers for Congress.

It ties in with some interesting stuff I’ve been discovering. Tuesday, we will be running Get Out the Vote activities from our house. A third of Kim’s district is in Stamford, and two thirds is in Greenwich. Stamford has a long history of very strong GOTV efforts, and the Democrats are more likely to get to the polls than the Republicans. However, in Greenwich, the Republicans are far more likely to get to the polls than the Democrats. We really need to get all the Democrats in Greenwich to the polls. It could make a very big difference.

As a few final notes: I was checking the referrers to my personal blog. I was interested to see a few search items show up:

Charles Littlejohn
Fairfield County Medical PAC
Medical Liability blog

It seems as if a few people have found my write-up on the medical liability insurance crisis and what the PACs are up to.

Also, people were doing Google Searches on BlogExplosion and were ending up here. However, since I haven’t been on BlogExplosion for the past couple days, my traffic has dropped off a bit.

Enough for tonight.
