Kim's Victory
Last night was a trying night for us. We had been up since four or five in the morning, standing at the polls and running a GOTV effort out of our house. It was hard work, but it was a lot of fun.
We were hoping that the results would be coming in fairly early, and we went to Greenwich headquarters first. Unfortunately, the results were slow in coming in. A friend called us and said that she had seen on the television that Kim had gotten 49% of the vote. We were very excited, because the Republicans outnumber the Democrats two to one. As the more Republican areas started reporting, the numbers dropped to 35%. In the end we believe Kim got about 38% of the vote.
So, while Kim will not be representing our district in Hartford, we are nonetheless declaring victory. If a mother who needs to spend time caring for a three year old and who has never run for office before can make such a strong showing, there is no reason why others can't get involved and run successful races. Kim delivered a very upbeat speech about this at Greenwich Democrats election night party.
We went to the party of the Stamford Democrats. Everyone there was very congratulatory and urged Kim to run for a seat in the next election where she will have a better chance. We haven't determined which seat she will run for, but the campaign begins as soon as we have had a chance to cleanup and recouperate.
I hope everyone else was at least as victorious as Kim.
