DNC, Meetups, and family
Recently, Zephyr Teachout wrote, Come Together, Right Now: The Internet's Unlit Fuse. It is a great entry, with an interesting following discussion that everyone should read. I’ve scanned it, but not spent the time with it that I want to. There has been another discussion on various mailing lists about Meetups, and I’ve added a few comments to these discussions, and pointed people to Zephyr’s post.
In other news, the AP is reporting that Gov. Vilsack will not seek to become the chair of the DNC. It will be interesting to see how this effects the positioning by various people, including Howard Dean, to become DNC chair.
This afternoon, I listened in on the conference call of the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee, discussing how the next DNC chair will be elected. There were a few minor changes to the procedure, such as the order of the roll call, but essentially, it will be the same procedure that has been used since 1989.
To get nominated, a candidate must file nominating petitions by 8 PM, two calendar days before the meeting. The petition must be signed by at least 20 DNC members.
I view it as a good thing for the Democratic Party that there is such interest in who will be chair of the DNC and that their meeting about the rules was open to the press.
In other news, my eldest daughter got home from college today. I met her in New York City, and we took the train home. It is great to see her again. My youngest daughter has a heart murmur and had an EKG today. We don’t believe it is anything to worry about. It seems like just about everyone in both sides of the family have heart murmurs.
My mother also went to a new cardiologist today. My sister came out from Ohio, and I went up to Massachusetts to be with them yesterday. I haven’t heard any news on that front yet.
With all of this, I have been offline a lot over the past three days, and I feel somewhat behind. My email queue has grown back to around 200. Hopefully I will get more time to read, think and then write tomorrow.
