In my continuing quest to encourage people to be involved in their community, their country and their world, I would like to highlight what might seem an unlikely cause for a liberal blog, particularly in the eyes of conservatives.

Whether or not we think it was a good thing to go into Iraq, to still be in Iraq, or that the administration had a good plan, I hope we all can agree that we need to support the troops that are over there, and help bring about humanitarian aid.

To quote Dan Gillmor of the San Jose Mercury News, Spirit of America is "a Web-based humanitarian project that almost anyone can endorse, regardless of one's stance on the wisdom of the war."

We have long had a 'Support Our Troops' sticker on the back of our Prius, stuck between our Howard Dean sticker and a John Kerry sticker.

We realize that this may have caused considerable cognitive dissonance for some people and might even explain why it was stolen off the back of our car.

However, we do believe that progressives and liberals must actively show support for the troops and for humanitarian aid, so I am asking you, please donate to this worthy cause.
