AVC Begins trading
At 15:52, SLT, on the Atlas Venture Capital (AVC) channel in Second Life, it was announced that trading had resumed on AVC. The initial bids were for hundreds of thousands of shares at a penny or two each, and the initial asking prices were around ten Linden dollars. Fairly soon, a large sell order came in at L$ .50 which set the tone for the market. Slowly, the bids climbed up to that price and the first trade was at L$ .50
As the bids came in the sell orders backed off climbing up to L$ .60 and then L$ .65. Meanwhile on the AVC channel, everyone was talking about needing to put more money into their Virtual Stock Exchange (VSTEX) accounts. Not to miss out on the fun, I stopped by at the Second Life Capital Exchange (SlCapEx).
At about 15:58, I attempted to withdraw some of my funds from SlCapEx so I could go trade over on VSTEX. The ATM took my request, and my account on SlCapex was debited the correct amount. However, the money never made it to my account. A few minutes later, acqouel Argus asked people not to withdraw any money from the ATMs saying they were down. I told him that I had made a withdrawal and it was taken out of my account at SlCapEx but didn’t make it to my Second Life account. He said not to worry and to enter a support ticket.
Somehow, this seemed eerily all too familiar and my thoughts went back to when the Allenvest Investment Group ATMs started failing. Is SlCapEx using the same faulty machines? Do they have liquidity problems? acqouel Argus spoke as if he believed the ATMs should be fixed within an hour.
Meanwhile, I headed over to the VSTEX and took a little of my existing SL Cash and deposited it into their ATM. It worked smoothly. For some reason, it always seems to be withdrawals that don’t work, and not the deposits. Anyway, I made my deposit, and put in my buy order. I’ve now expanded my position in AVC stock.
An hour later, AVC investors and VSTEX officials were playing a little football at the VSTEX stadium, while I still waited for my money from SlCapEx.
The World Stock Exchange is still closed for upgrades, so at least for today VSTEX dominated the excitement in Second Life Trading, with SlCapex being the big disappointment.
Update: It took about six hours before the problem of my withdrawal was resolved with SlCapex, but they handled the whole processing problem very professionally.
