On the way to the convention

Sunday, 7 AM, express into the city. I’ll get there at 7:42 and walk over to Bryant Park. There, I’ll see how the wireless is running and if I can get to IRC, Skype, SIP, etc. I’m a little tired from walking up early, but a little pumped.

On the train are Connecticut State Police.

Yesterday was really hot. Kim went door knocking and I rested and worked on the database and website. Kim came back feeling a bit sick from the heat so I spent a lot of time with Fiona. She didn’t feel like going to the pool, so we played on the yard, and then went down to a local park.

When we got home, we went out for Chinese food. At the end of the meal, Fiona got a fortune saying, “A new outlook brightens your image and brings new friends.” Fiona’s image is already very bright and she constantly finds new friends.

Kim’s fortune said, “A secret admirer will soon send you a sign of affection.” I told Kim that my fortune said, “Send a sign of affection to someone you secretly admire.” We all had a laugh out of that. Actually, the fortune said, “Sometimes even love shows a re-run”.

Looking at my horoscope today, it said something about observing what is going on around you, and that something I see or experience today could be life changing. Well, that fits well with going to blog the convention and all the activities around it.

With all that has been leading up to the convention, I do have a little bit of a sense of foreboding. I want to stay safe and participate more as an observer than a participant.

In New York, I run into Andy Wormser who was on the train. There were several other protestors on the train as well. At Grand Central Station, I see a group of men in camouflages. The all appear to be carrying machine guns. It doesn’t make me feel more secure. Overhead, is the sound of helicopters, which I’ve heard friend complaining about.

I upload pictures off my camera, and clear out its memory. Things look pretty much ready for the day.

I walk over to Bryant Park and turn on my laptop. Skype comes up, as does Yahoo Messenger. X-Ten has problems connecting with FWD. I try a few different configurations to see if I can get one to work, but no luck. IRC comes up okay. Using VNC, I log into my home computer and see that half a dozen new emails have come in. None of them seem all that important. I read through the emails, finish of this post, and get ready to head to the tank.
