More Connecticut Democratic Delegate News
Since my previous blog post about the delegate caucuses that will be taking place next Wednesday, I’ve received several other emails about candidates to become delegates.
In the First Congressional District, besides Jason Paul, whom I wrote about yesterday, Larry Charles, Sofia Dannenberg, Val McCall, and Shawn Wooden are running to become delegates for Obama and West Hartford Mayor Scott Slifka is running for Alternate. Slifka was John DeStefano’s running mate in the 2006 Gubernatorial campaign.
In the Second Congressional District Vivien Blackford, Robert Madore, Nick Paindiris are running for delegates for Obama. Vivien Blackford has worked hard behind the scenes on many campaigns include Gov. Dean in 2004, Ned Lamont in 2006 and for Obama this time around. Nick Paindiris is a member of the Democratic State Central Committee who worked hard on Kerry’s campaign in 2004 and on Obama’s campaign in this cycle.
I don’t have any additional information about people in the Third Congressional District.
In the Fourth Congressional District, Lyda Ahearn, Gloria DePina, Tom Wilkinson are running to become Obama delegates and Gail Worthington is running to become the Alternate. Other possible candidates include Fairfield First Selectman Ken Flatto, State Represntative Kim Fawcett and Lynda Shannon Bluestein.
On Clinton’s side, Ridgefield Democratic Town Committee Chair Susan Cocco and Stamford Mayor and former Gubernatorial candidate Dan Malloy are both on the slate. Other potential delegate candidates include Susan P. Barrett, Bob Mayer and Martin Goldberg. Susan is a State Central member, as well as former State Representative and former Democratic Town Chair in Fairfield. Bob Mayer is on the board of finance in Fairfield and Martin Goldberg is running for State Senate.
In the Fifth Congressional District, Frank Borges, Millie Torres Ferguson, Elizabeth Giannaros are running to become Obama delegates. State Senator. Don DeFronzo is running to become the Alternate. Millie is an assistant to State Representative Chris Donovan, House Majority Leader. She also serves as chair of the Meriden Democratic Town Committee. Elizabeth is the Democratic Town Chair in Farmington. Her husband is State Representative Demetrios Giannaros, who serves as Deputy Majority Leader.
I don’t have any additional details about possible Clinton Delegates in the Fifth Congressional district. However, I would not be surprised to hear that Democratic State Central member, and former Secretary of State Candidate Audrey Blondin is in the running.
With all of this, some of the delegate caucuses could end up being interesting. I’ve heard stories of various delegates being asked to bring thirty to fifty committed supporters to the caucuses. So, find out who is running in your district. Get to know them a little bit, and then get to the caucuses on Wednesday night.
