Technology Stuff
Over the years, I've had several different blogs running several different programs on several different servers. Most of them are still up and running and you can read much of my old posts if you search around a little.
One blog I set up was running MovableType on a PC in my kitchen. It is also the PC that my daughter uses much of the time. Unfortunately, something causes the server to get stuck and she needs to reboot before the PC works reliably.
Yesterday, I spent some time trying to find out exactly what is causing the problem. As best as I can tell, the old MovableType blog gets stuck in a tight loop.
Poking around, I found that I had over 15,000 comments on that blog; an average of over 400 comments per post.
Needless to say, they are almost all spam. It is an older version of MovableType and so instead of upgrading and putting in spam filters and all that stuff, I figured it was time to start shutting down that blog.
So, I have started taking old blog entries from the MovableType blog and adding them here. I can back date the entry, so they show up in the proper chronological order. However, their sequential numbers are out of whack, and the listing of blog posts on the left are sorted by sequential blog entry number instead of the date, so for the time being, you will see a lot of old blog posts in that block.
At some point, I'll get around to updating this site to newer software, and/or modify the code to sort by timestamp instead of blog entry number, but for the time being, that is why all the old posts are showing up.
At some point soon, I hope to have a more in depth discussion of blog and campaign technology, but I've got a pretty busy schedule right now.
