#swct Gets off to a Great Start
Saturday morning, a couple dozen social media enthusiasts gather at John Davenport's Restaurant at the top of the Omni Hotel in downtown New Haven to kick of Social Web Week Connecticut 2010. A video message from Mayor John DeStefano was shown amidst many messages being sent out via Twitter, Foursquare, ustream, qik, Facebook and other forms of social media.
The theme for Saturday was Destination CT, with the Omni as the first destination. The theme for Sunday is Family and Friends with many more great destinations, but it turned out that Saturday was also a family day as families gathered at the kickoff. Children of various organizers handled the cameras and cellphones to send out various pictures and video streams.
After the kickoff, some social web week participants headed off on Steven Fries Culinary Walking Tour. People tweet pictures of The Wine Thief:
Culinary tourists even had some mashed potato & bacon pizza at BAR and visited Heirloom at The Study:
Other people headed out for the #tweasure hunt. This is a twitter based treasure hunt where participants visit various shops around New Haven and tweet about what they find there. Tweasure hunters stopped at English Building Markets to admire shoes
Other stops included:
Metaphore and Martini glasses:
The Yale Center for British Art where Tweasurehunters selected different scents and Hull’s New Haven where I checked out some modeling supplies:
Other stops included Celtica:
and Kerin:
Tweasure hunt will continue throughout Social Web Week. Those looking for a more intense scavenger hunt participated in Cluefest:
Over 43 teams gathered at Bru Café to head out on Cluefest.
Those who wanted to just walk, joined the Fairhaven Walking Tour ending up at . Others ended up at Miya’s Sushi for a Tweetcrawl.
Now, it is Sunday morning. Some social media enthusiasts got up early to play golf together. Others are heading to CitySeed Farmers Market. Next to the farmers market there will be a Soccer Clinic and later in the day, people will gather at various pubs around New Haven to watch the World Cup Finale and then many will head over to a Jam Session on the Quinnipaic Riveria.
Social Web Week has been self-organized by volunteers and perhaps what is best about it is that others are joining in. @kewingct tweeted this morning, “Block Party at 2:00 today on Asylum Street. Come on out Hill North residents and friends. Or follow my tweets. #swct #nhv”
