The Lamont Local

(Cross posted at My Left Nutmeg)

Yesterday, I had the honor of being Ned Lamont’s driver as he went to the Greenwich and Norwalk DFA Meetups. It helps that my wife is helping out in Ned’s campaign office and that she is also helping run the Greenwich Meetup.

Greenwich hasn’t had a Meetup in quite a while, and various people wanted to get the Meetup going again. There were probably about fifteen people that showed up, and Ned gave his proto-stump speech. He spoke about being a newspaper reporter up in Vermont when he was young, and learning to ask the hard questions. He spoke about building his own business and how he had to use those same questioning skills in building the company and he spoke about how our elected officials have not been asking the sort of questions that needed to be asked at the start up of the Iraq war or during confirmation debates in the Senate. He was well received, but I needed to whisk him off to the Norwalk Meetup so there wasn’t a lot of time for discussion.

We got to Norwalk a little bit before Ned was scheduled to speak. There were at least sixty people there, and like in New Haven there were a fair amount of DTC members. Speaking before him was a woman from One Connecticut talking about issues we face in our state. Please check out One Connecticut to see how you can be involved.

Ned got up and did his proto-stump speech again. Each time he speaks, he gets a little better, and this time he was interrupted by applause about a dozen times. Channel 12 was there and taped a little bit of the Q&A and did a one on one with him afterwards. Quite a few people signed up on the paper signup sheets that I had there.

John Hartwell, who has been leading the Norwalk Meetups since I stepped aside to work on campaigns announced that he has accepted Ned’s offer to be Treasurer. John is a great guy and I’m glad for him and for Ned’s campaign. He also announced that over seven hundred people from Connecticut have signed up on the Ned Lamont website. If you haven’t signed up, please do today.

Tonight, Ned will be up at the Bertucci’s in West Hartford at 7 PM. It is at 330 N Main St. This is being organized by Vicki Usher in conjunction with the Greater Hartford DFA Meetup. Already 15 people have signed up on DFA Link. If you can make it, please do.

There is a lot of excitement around this campaign and it is a good sign for Democratic politics in Connecticut.
