Current blogging
March was a difficult month for me. I only got six blog posts up. I continue to be swamped this month, but I’m trying hard to do better with getting blog posts up here.
What has been taking up some of my time is posting on other blogs, so I thought I would highlight comments I’ve made to three different diaries over on MyDD.
Last week, I participated in a bloggers conference call with Chuck Schumer and Rahm Emanuel of the DSCC and DCCC. There was a discussion about it here which wasn’t very impressed. I added my comments here where I talked about my disappointment.
I wrote, “So, yes, if the DSCC and DCCC won't fire up the troops. None of them seem to have any fire in their bellies. If none of them can present a positive message, then we need to do it ourselves.
So, let's get some plain speaking candidates who aren't afraid to speak truth to power. Let's get some inspirational candidates that can counter a message of fear with a message of hope. Let's get some candidates we can be excited about.”
In a discussion about Ned Lamont, I responded to a Lieberman supporter who was talking about the importance of Washington insider ties. I commented here, “It is time that we get back to a government of, by and for the people, instead of a government of, by and for the Washington Insiders.”
Then, there was a discussion about Nancy Johnson, where I talked about Chris Murphy’s great campaign swag. “What really matters is getting people involved, having fun and out there talking to others.
This is why I think their campaign swag was so powerful. Inside it said, ‘We had more cash on hand at the beginning of this election year than any other challenger to Nancy Johnson has ever had at that time’. It talked about the great strength of support and be smart about how they spend their money.
Then, it had 'Chris Murphy for Congress' inside a dashed line the shape of a campaign button. it had instructions about cutting neatly around the dotted line, taping on a safety pin suggesting that you color the pin with crayons or markers and enjoying having the pin.
I love it. Fun, participatory democracy, or perhaps to stay with the idea of this site, 'Direct Democracy'.”
It all fits in a common theme, fun participatory democracy, of by and for the people. Hopefully, the DSCC and the DCCC will come to understand that before it’s too late.
