Competition and Cooperation
Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Wed, 01/04/2006 - 16:18Recently aspects of competition and cooperation as it exists in our media, in our politics and in our daily lives keep recurring in discussions I’m in. I think this is a very important part of the political dynamic that should be explored.
At a holiday party, we got into a discussion about television shows years ago and today. Do any of you remember “Then came Bronson”? IMDB describes the pilot this way: “Jim Bronson is a young newspaperman who quits his job following the suicide of his best friend, and sets out on a cross-country trip on his motorcycle in his quest for the meaning of life in which he befriends a runway bride, another searching soul, in this pilot for the TV series of the same name.”

First, apologies to those of you who are bored by this discussion. I always try to make my posts interesting or at least amusing, but sometimes I fail, and I am not offended by quick deletions of my emails just as I hope none of you are offended when I fairly quickly delete entries about topics like billing practices which have no applicability to me.
For those of you are interested in the discussion about Wikipedia, I would encourage you to read David Weinberger’s excellent blog entry, Why the media can't get Wikipedia right. For those of you particularly concerned about credentials, David has a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Toronto and is a research fellow at the Berkman Institute for Internet and Society at Harvard Law School.

Goals for the New Year
Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Thu, 12/29/2005 - 22:26Well, 2005 is coming to a close, and like the end of any year, it is a good time to look at what has happened and what the goals for the coming year should be.
Clearly, the top priority is my finances. I have to make sure that there is enough bread on the table. Beyond that there are the all the political issues, how to move the political dialog to more responsibly address the needs of all people, and not just the rich and powerful. Then, there are more specific personal goals.
