Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Fri, 08/12/2011 - 17:00Well, it’s time for another Empire Avenue based Follow Friday. I did this about two months ago as I was just getting up to speed with Empire Avenue, so I figure it is about time to do it again.
This time, I am listing some of the people whom I have recently started following on Twitter as a result of their Empire Avenue activity. Besides being people that I’ve connected with via Empire Avenue, there are certain themes. The people are often involved in social media and/or health care, with a few interesting exceptions.
I have skipped over people that tweet more than a hundred times a tday. That is just too many to add to my stream. I also skipped a few people that I was already following prior to getting involved in Empire Avenue.
If you’re not on Empire Avenue and interested in checking it out, please click on the following link (so I get credit for you signing up!) Empire Avenue Sign Up

Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Fri, 08/05/2011 - 17:06As the Social Media Manager for Community Health Center, Inc., in Connecticut I figure I should at least mention @CHCConnecticut in a Follow Friday post. Besides writing for @CHCConnecticut, I also work with @RecessRocksCHC and @CHCRadio which are projects of CHC. CHC is also playing a major role in bringing a New Years Eve celebration to Middletown. It will be called Middnight on Main, and I’m helping get their social media off the ground. One of the groups that will be playing at Middnight on Main is @barefoottruth; check out their Twitter feed.
Another social media friend from Middletown area is @cherylbudge. Hopefully, she’ll bring her family to Middnight on Main. Wrapping things up, I should do a shout @JoeCascio. He’s pulling together another Tweetup on Sunday at The Place in Guilford. We’ll see if I can work that into the schedule. Perhaps we’ll even see Cheryl there.

Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Fri, 07/29/2011 - 11:32This week, I’ve been at a conference on best practices at community health centers. @LeeAase led the initial session talking about Bringing the Social Media Revolution to Health Care. @CHCConnecticut, where I work, is this year’s host. Other health centers that are participants in the Best Practices Forum include @Ebnhc @LutheranHC.
I’ve been tweeting aspects of the forum from the @CHCConnecticut account. There have been some interesting videos shared and other great comments. People who have retweeted this include friends in health care social media such as @HealthJusticeCT @LNReynolds @Willie_Matis

Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Fri, 07/15/2011 - 17:25Okay, so, for Follow Friday this week, I used Google+. I started off by going to my Circles page, and clicking on people in my circles. I sorted it by relevance, and went to the profiles of the people that Google+ said were most relevant. From that, I grabbed their Twitter id, and here they are.
Following with the Google+ theme, instead of talking about each person and why they might be relevant, how well I know them, etc., I’m going to take a look at an over view of who they are, sort of like the analysis I might do in deciding which circles to put them in.
I do not have gender based circles, but there has been a bit of talk recently about how Google+ is dominated by males. First, I question the methodology used. How did they come up with their samples? I find it interesting that of the ten people chosen it is an equal split between mail and female.
So, let’s start with @shesosocial. I’ve got her in circles for people that live nearby. In fact, four of the people fit into circles like that. @kanter is one of the best known social media and non-profit people and at least half of the people in this list are involved in one way or another with nonprofits. There is also a strong health care component, and although I only have three family members in my circles, two of them show up as most relevant.
I hope to explore some of the social dynamics of my circles in a later post, but for now, that’s my Google+ inspired #ff.
Now, for a quick, different comment. Klout has a new thing called ‘Perks’. People who are viewed as influential on Klout can get various freebees. The idea is that they want people who are influential to post about the perks, generating viral advertising. Today, I receive my first Perk.
Certain Klout users could receive invitations to Spotify, the new (at least in the U.S.) video streaming service. I received my invitation and set up Spotify. Spotify is working on a Freemium model. There is a certain amount that you can do on Spotify for free, supported by advertising. If you upgrade to a premium account, you get additional features and no ads.
Klout will provide Premium upgrades to people who get at least five other people to sign up for Klout. Those people also get invitations to Spotify. So, if you’re not on Klout, please sign up on Klout/Spotify link. Thanks.

Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Fri, 07/08/2011 - 20:56Okay. Today for #followfriday, I was lazy. I used Follow Friday Helper to come up with a list of people that I’ve been interacting with on Twitter. It did a pretty good job. So, let me talk a little bit about this weeks Follow Friday list.
@lnreynolds and @familycarewv are people that I’m following because of our mutual involvement in community health centers. I think both of them were part of the most recent #chcchat.
@meredithgould and @westr are people that I know through the Social Media Health Network organized by the Mayo clinic.
@hynesyte is my brother. He lives on a boat and tweets a lot about the Hudson River and Second Life.
@ludlowerehab is a health care facility in Connecticut. Since I work for a different health care organization in Connecticut, we often end up tweeting about a lot of the same things.
@cherylbudge is a mommy blogger that I met through various social media events in Connecticut. I haven’t run into her recently, even though we work in the same town.
@dsgold is another health care social media type. He’s a good source to follow on health care and social media issues.
@localfooddude describes himself as “Chef, Dad, Ending Childhood Hunger Advocate, Farm 2 School, Co-chair Taste of the Nation New Haven”. He was listed in a #ff tweet from another New Haven friend which he retweeted, which is why he showed up on my screen. I’m glad he did. He’s an interesting person.
So, that’s my fairly quick and easy Follow Friday, this week thanks to Follow Friday Helper.
Oh, and as a side note, I’ve been interacting with quite a few of them on Google+ as well.
