I spent yesterday afternoon phonebanking for Jim Orazietti, who was running for State Representative in a special election in Shelton, CT. Also phonebanking was Megan and her five week old baby.
I think the picture of Megan and her baby at the phonebanks captures a very important part of what I view the mission of Orient Lodge to be. I captures the intersection of different communities. I hope many mommy bloggers participating in Wordless Wednesday will take a look at Megan and her cute baby and think, I could be out doing something like that. Perhaps they will stop and wonder, do they know who their State Representative is. Perhaps they will become a little more involved in the civic life of their community.
I hope that many political bloggers stopping by will see the importance of reaching out to mommy bloggers and other blogging communities. I hope that they will think about their support of various health care, environment, education, and fiscal responsibility issues in more concrete terms.
In other posts, I’ve written about the importance of retail politics, and spending an afternoon on the phones talking with voters, or spending a Saturday morning, going door to door providing information about candidates is about as retail as it gets.
I hope everyone comes away from this Wordless Wednesday a little more committed to civic involvement in their community.
