All of this ties back to a wonderful thought I stumbled across on one blog recently. Unfortunately, I can’t find it again, and Technorati isn’t being helpful. I can’t remember the quote, so I’ll come up with my own version.
The promise of online social networks is in enhancing the face to face networking we do, not replace it.
Years ago, I used to talk about how if they ever get anywhere with artificial intelligence, the intelligence being emulated is likely to be that of the A.I. programmers, and most A.I. programmers that I have know are pretty weird. To a certain extent, it seems like the same may apply to social network programmers. I wonder how functional the social networks of various social network programmers are.
So, against the backdrop I have just painted, let me come up with a suggestion. Don’t go leave a comment on someone else’s blog. Go find someone that you can actually put your arms around and give them a hug.
