Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Tue, 09/27/2005 - 22:32Today, Jon Lebkowsky writes about Google Video. He didn’t find it very compelling. I didn’t find it very compelling either. In a lot of ways, it seems like it is a lot archive.org.
Jon writes, “I'm waiting for someone smart with a lot of server power to put the jillions of television programs from the ‘golden age’ online.”
This provides an interesting contrast to Grant McCracken’s blog entry today about how the new Disney CEO, “Iger intends to ‘distribute Disney films and TV shows digitally on phones and directly to homes.’”
Random Online Observations
Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Mon, 09/26/2005 - 11:54I spend a lot of time searching the web for what is happening. I often check out Technorati to see what the top ten searches are. Yesterday and today, Kielle was a top search topic. SF Site reports “Kelly Eileen O’Guinn (b.1972) died on September 22. Known as Kielle, she was diagnosed with colon cancer four months ago. She was active in web-publishing and role-playing fanfic.”
There are wonderful tributes to her around the Internet. Years ago, I took an online class, Grief in a Family Context. It was one of the best classes I ever took. It seems as if there is room for lots of research in how people process grief, especially as we all become more interconnected via the Internet.
The convergence of television and the Internet
Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Wed, 09/14/2005 - 09:09Geoff Fox has an interesting blog entry about TV and the Internet. He says a lot of interesting things that I want to comment on:
I hate to say something good about a competitor, but… Personally, I think it is good to say good things about competitors. It is part of being the good sport we were always told to be in gym back in elementary school.
It is interesting to watch the direction of TV news and the Internet. This gets to the crux of the post that I want to talk about. He has several points that I want to comment on.
Random Stuff

However, there are a few different blog entries that I would like to point to, in no particular order.
Today, I received an email from Britt Blaser about his blog post, Getting Out the 3 Votes. Please read this and follow the links, particularly to the Thomas Friedman endorsement of Andrew Rasiej. As I wrote about over on the DeStefano blog, tomorrow is primary day in a lot of places. Please get out and vote.
Playing with Google Talk
Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Mon, 08/29/2005 - 11:37The other day, I downloaded Google Talk. I installed it on my laptop, and on a few computers for my kids. Today, I’ve talked a little bit with them via Google Talk and want to share my impressions.
First, I should note that my primary machine is about a 1996 vintage Compaq file server. It is running Windows NT version 4.0 and doesn’t have much space left on the C drive, so I like to load programs over on my E drive. This presents two problems for Google Talk. The first is that Google Talk won’t work on Windows NT 4.0. The second is that even if you try to install it, you don’t have the ability to have it install on the E drive. It puts things on the C drive without offering a choice.
