Linkfest

This morning I had breakfast with David Isenberg. I’ve know David from a mailing list related to the Greater Democracy blog. He lives the next town over and we’ve communicated via email a lot. We were long over due for breakfast.

PodCasting

Today, I downloaded iPodder, which is now up and running on my old NT box. I've downloaded a few MP3s, but haven't done the final step of loading them onto my iPod. Instead, I'm listening to the MP3s directly from my PC. So far, I've listened to a 'Welcome to iPodder' type message, a little bit of some comedy routine, that wasn't particularly funny, and the beginning of a two day old broadcast of Al Franken from Air America.

The question I have is: are their any podcasts out there that people really like and recommend? Or, is podcasting not ready for primetime yet?

What to do about the DNC

(Originally published in a DailyKos Diary)

Kos writes, “People want to know what to do. Be patient -- there are people out there getting the list of 440 voters updated, with contact info, etc. Those guys are about to get flooded”.

I am one of those people out there getting the list of 440 voters updated. (Check out http://platform.smartcampaigns.com/DNCMemberState to find the information about different members and let me know any additional information you have).

I have received emails from people claiming that Gov. Dean doesn’t want people to start contacting DNC members yet, that we should wait until he decides if he wants the job, or if there is someone in particular he would like us to support. Other emails have said that he doesn’t want DNC members flooded for fear of a backlash.

My view is a little bit different than Kos or Dean’s. I believe that the Democratic Party needs massive change. Gov. Dean has said that if all you do is vote, you get a ‘D’. If all you do is sign an online petition saying you would like Gov. Dean to be DNC Chair, well, I don’t think that is even a passing grade.

The Democratic Message

(Originally published in Greater Democracy)

Yesterday evening, several of us who write for the Greater Democracy blog received an email from Elissa Bishop-Becker saying:

“On C-Span now is a live program on the Digital Future--part of a series from the Library of Congress. David Weinberger is one of the panelists and you can email questions.”

The email turned out to be a good illustration of what David was talking about.

For those of you that don’t know David, he’s this slightly goofy guy with a weblog that I met through the Dean campaign. For those of you that do know him, he is a brilliant speaker, a Fellow at Harvard's Berkman Institute for Internet & Society, and co-author of The Cluetrain Manifesto.

In his comments at the Library of Congress, he spoke about the categorization of information and how the Internet is changing all of that. He spoke about the importance of personal connections, trust, friendship, and the sharing of information.

As I listened to him, a lot of thoughts gelled in my mind.

Strengthen the Good

A while ago, I stumbed across Strengthen the Good, 'Using the power of weblogs for open-source charity. Don't just fight', which I posted about here a while ago.

Today, the New York Times has an article about it.

I was interested to find that it was set up by Alan Nelson of Command Post.
