FollowFriday

#FF @RobQuigley @NickDawson @JMSCHC @NBNinc @donechute @bfowlersc @astyaep

Well, this week, I’m pretty tired, so I’m writing a Follow Friday post listing the seven people I’ve followed most recently.

Starting off the list is @RobQuigley Rob followed me recently and I followed him back. I’m not sure if Rob is related to @RichQuigley, but about the same time Rob followed me, Rich retweeted a message I had sent. Rich lists himself as “Award Winning Media Strategist & Exec Producer @NBNinc,” and Rob lists himself as “Directing social media for Source Interlink Media - 75+ magazine brands & websites. Former New Media Director for Gov. @Schwarzenegger.”

@NBNInc describes itself as “Since 1968, the leading producer & distributor of branded content for PR & marketing, including, media tours, RNRs, MVRs, PSAs, News Media, Corp News & Video.” They are currently running a contest where a nonprofit will receive a free radio news release. (Click on the contest link for details.)

One of my coworkers speaks highly of @NBNInc, and suggested we should try to get people to nominate CHC. I posted a tweet about it and followed @NBNInc and they followed me back.

@NickDawson starts his Twitter description with “Hospital administration, passionate about patient experience, maker of bacon”. He wrote an interesting blog post, Meaningful Use guidelines for Social Media in Healthcare. “Meaningful Use” is a term of art in heathcare technology, and Nick has written a great blog post.

@JMSCHC is the Joseph M Smith Community Health Center in Massachusetts. I believe we met through the weekly #chcchat and I look forward to talking more with them over the coming weeks.

@donechute is a blogger I met through EntreCard or one of those networks. He recently followed me and I followed him back.

@bfowlersc is a “Health Policy and Advocacy for SC Community Health Centers and the National Association of Community Health Centers”

Closing off the list is @astyaep who attended a discussion I lead about social media and families.

So, that is my list for this week. Happy Follow Friday everyone.

#FF Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Quora, and Foursquare

Normally on Follow Friday, I list various people that I’ve recently followed on Twitter or that I’ve been following for a while, but are particularly relevant to what is going on during the week. This week, I’m going meta.

Yesterday, I stumbled across a blog post talking about connecting Twitter and LinkedIn, so I finally got around to adding the Twitter App on LinkedIn. It got me thinking, it would be good to explore a little bit how my different social maps overlap.

I’m on a lot of different networks. I have the most connections on Twitter. I’m currently following 2930 people and 3333 people are following me back. According to who.unfollowed.me there are 902 on Twitter that I am following that are not following me back. From that, it would appear as if there are 2028 that I am following that are following me back. From this I come up with 1305 people that are following me that I’m not following back. This would be good Venn diagram sort of stuff.

On Facebook, I have 1916 friends. There used to be an app that would try to map Facebook friends and Twitter followers, however that seemed to have stopped working sometime back, so I really don’t know what the over lap between twitter and facebook is for me.

LinkedIn is probably the next largest network in terms of my connections. Currently, I have 640 connections there. Of these, 245 are also on LinkedIn. I’m currently following 176 of these connections on Twitter and there are 69 on LinkedIn that I am not yet following. It was a bit more, but I added a bunch of them Thursday. I’ll probably go out and add more later. LinkedIn makes it fairly easy to follow people on Twitter that you are already connected with.

The next network in terms of connections is Quora. I’m currently following 441 people there. and 371 are following me. Quora does give information about how this overlaps with Facebook, and 171 of the people that I follow I’m also friends with on Facebook. I don’t know how this network overlaps with other networks, or other aspects a asymmetry. Quora does give you the ability to see if a connection is also on Facebook or Twitter. However, it doesn’t currently give any good analytics.

You can check to find the Facebook and Twitter Pages of people on Quora, so I could go through all of them to see if I follow them on other social networks, however that is a bit of work, and perhaps an API will help with that at some point. On a quick spot check I found a lot of overlap.

Ending off the list of networks where I’ve been spending a bit of time recently is Foursquare. Currently, I have 360 friends on Foursquare. Foursquare also gives the ability to check to see who you are connected with on Twitter and Facebook and request friendship on Foursquare. And, for each person on Foursquare, you can see their Twitter and Facebook page. I haven’t done a spot check on this.

With that, I’ve been following a bunch of people on different networks that I am currently following on other networks. At some point, I’ll perhaps consolidate a lot of this into some sort of social media contact management system.

#ff @rawarrior @westr @StaceyLSimon @MeredithGould @JBNorberg

Last week, my Follow Friday post focused on people that I expected to run into at the Social Media for Healthcare conference I was going to. Well, I’m back and and slowly digging out, so I figured I would highlight some of the folks I spoke with at the conference.

@rawarrior writes about rheumatoid arthritis. You should check her out on Twitter, and follow the link to her website and Facebook page.

@westr is teaches molecular biology and social media. It is a great combination and I really enjoyed several discussions I had with him.

@StaceyLSimon works in public relations for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. While she was at the conference, she still got a tweet out referring to something one of the doctors had written about radiation and Japan. Smart, and dedicated.

@MeredithGould has a doctorate in sociology. I really enjoyed talking with her about group dynamics as they exists online and I look forward to many future discussions with her.

@JBNorberg has only posted nine tweets as of the writing of this blog post, so there isn’t a lot to go on from her twitter presence. We had a good chat at one of the social events.

There were lots of other interesting folks there, but I figured I’d highlight these and then call it a week.

Normally on Fridays I post a Follow Friday (#ff) entry to my blog. Through the magic of TwitterFeed it shows up on Twitter as a Follow Friday tweet with a link back to my extended thoughts about whom I am following and why.

Normally, it is people that I’ve been following for quite a while, or people that I’ve recently met. Today, I am doing a preemptive Follow Friday.

You see, Sunday afternoon, I’m flying down to a Social Media conference in Jacksonville, FL, which goes by the hashtag, #MayoRagan. Since it is health care and social media, I figure I should add the #hcsm hashtag, and since I work for a Federally Qualified Health Center, I figure I should add #fqhc to the list.

As is often the case, people that will be attending the conference have already started tweeting ahead of time. With this, I can spend a little time getting to know who will be there.

Starting off the list is @daniellecass, @gingeranderson, @billyorr, @g24khamr, and @jeisman. It appears as if they are on a lunchtime panel together. @daniellecass is a communicator for Kaiser Permanente and is listed as the moderator. @gingeranderson works for ScrippsHealth. She’s a mommy blogger and I’ve scanned her blog. She sounds interesting. @billyorr is an EVP for Racepoint Group. @g24khamr is another California EVP. At first glance Gary’s blog doesn’t seem all that interesting; yet another guy writing about social media, public relations and journalism. Yet his blog roll seems interesting. He lists himself as a fellow member of the Media Bloggers Association. He links to Global Voices, Jay Rosen, David Parmet, and even an old Second Life business blog. He just might be interesting to talk to after all. @jeisman appears to work for healthcare.gov, but I don’t find her in the program listing and she doesn’t seem to have a lot of information on her Twitter page either.

A bunch of other people have tweeted about being there and I’ve been reading various profiles, blogs, etc. I’m sure I’ll have a good time and have some interesting discussions, but it’s been a very long week, and something about all the profiles makes me feel like I need to bring a copy of Fear and Loathing with me to the conference.

@harpethrising @dme1661 @newhavenreentry @emacartney @yougottacall @jordanfenster @sparkenergyCT @EricTTung #agpa @dr_bob @drcdrury #beerup @joecascio @cherylbudge

Okay, its a kind of scrambled Follow Friday. Starting off the list is Harpeth Rising, a really great band that I’ve been following for a while. They recently followed me, so it is a good time to mention them again.

Next is @dme1661. I know David from other circles, and while he is new to Twitter and hasn’t tweeted anything yet, I expect his tweets will be interesting.

@newhavenreentry also also just followed me. This is a city initiative ‘to help formerly incarcerated residents reintegrate into New Haven’. Worth the follow.

@emacartney recently came on to my radar she works for the Palo Alto Medical Foundation and has been writing a lot of interesting health care tweets.

I was surprised to get a message that @yougottacall recently followed me. I’ve been friends with Tim from @yougottacall for quite a while, and I thought had been following each other for quite a while. Anyway, it is time for another shout out to Tim.

@jordanfenster writes for the New Haven Register. We’ve recently had some good discussions about social media and kids. It will be interesting to see what else he has to say.

@sparkenergyCT recently followed me. If something that sounds a bit like a company follows me, like @sparkenergyCT or @YouGottaCall, I’m unlikely to follow them unless I have some sort of relationship with the company or people in it. At first, I did not recognize @sparkenergyCT, but then I got a message from @EricTTung that he works there and hoped that I would #FF the company, so, here you are Eric.

Next up are @dr_bob and @drcdrury. I am supposed to lead a panel early tomorrow morning with @dr_bob at the #agpa conference. @drcdrury was supposed to be on the panel as well, but unfortunately can’t make it. See AGPA 223 for more details.

I had hoped to make it to the whole conference, but that fell through so I’m just going Saturday morning. This means that I will be in Middletown this afternoon, so I hope to stop by for #beerup with @joecascio @cherylbudge and other CT Twitter friends.

That’s it for today’s #FF.
