Politics
It’s about the fun.

Recently, I’ve been on many mailing lists bewailing the results of the November election. There are discussions about how to reform the Democratic Party. Should Howard Dean become the DNC Chair? Should people leave and start a new centrist party or a new progressive party? Fighting between Democrats is rampant on the mailing lists, all as everyone searches for new messages, new ways to frame messages, and new voices to deliver the messages.
A Question of Values

The phrase, “A Question of Values” reminds me of something from my college days, a symposium or something like that. I can’t quite put my finger on it. Whatever it was, it seems as if “A Question of Values” is something we need to thinking about.
At Wooster, I started off a religion major and ended up becoming a philosophy major. Back then, I read a wide spectrum of magazines about Christianity from Christian Century, to Christianity Today to Sojourners.
As people start talking about the ‘moral values’ that some polls say was such an important aspect of the past election, I was interested to read this article in Sojourners. It has a good exploration into what people really think about ‘moral values’, aided by this poll from Zogby.
DNC, Meetups, and family
Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Mon, 11/22/2004 - 20:50Recently, Zephyr Teachout wrote, Come Together, Right Now: The Internet's Unlit Fuse. It is a great entry, with an interesting following discussion that everyone should read. I’ve scanned it, but not spent the time with it that I want to. There has been another discussion on various mailing lists about Meetups, and I’ve added a few comments to these discussions, and pointed people to Zephyr’s post.
In other news, the AP is reporting that Gov. Vilsack will not seek to become the chair of the DNC. It will be interesting to see how this effects the positioning by various people, including Howard Dean, to become DNC chair.
Watching the DNC
Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Sat, 11/20/2004 - 22:37Today, I received a press release about the DNC Rules Committee holding a conference call on Monday 'to establish the rules and procedures for the February election of the DNC Chair and officers.'
Target and Salvation Army
Submitted by Aldon Hynes on Sat, 11/20/2004 - 13:10Recently, I stumbled across a blog entry talking about how Target is not allowing the Salvation Army to ask for donations on their property. Hugh Hewitt writes about it here, and points to an article at Boston.com about this. Other conservative bloggers have also picked up on this.
Last month, a Target opened up in our town. I don’t like shopping. My wife does the shopping for the family. She loves target. She hates Walmart. Is some of this political? Perhaps. So, I thought I would dig a little deeper.
